Domestic Sphere Project 1
You are an interior designer who has been asked to create a historic design style for a small house layout with furnishings, finishes, and lighting.
Select one of the following floor plans for development of a design with historic influence.
Your clients would like you to show them elevations of the home with design elements that show inspiration from one of the following historic styles:
Arts and Crafts
Art Nouveau
International Style
Midcentury Modern
Scandinavian
Postmodern
Your clients want to show design trends in their project. The document is under Files Week 7. They have been interested in the top 101 designers from Elle Décor’s top 101 designers for 2021.
Select 5 designers from the list and summarize their design perspective. Describe themes from their designs, what commonalities do you see in their work? What differences do you see in their work? Do the designers use a common design style? If so, does the style reference any historical periods? Consider looking at 5 images on the websites for each designer. Paragraph form.
Sketch the following:
4 annotated elevations
Show baseboards, crown, door/window framing
Draw sconces and wall lighting
Draw furniture and cabinetry including built-ins.
Show and note hardware
Write a short design concept with the following information:
Describe the colors of the interior
Describe the furniture in the interior
Describe the principles and elements of design that reflect the historical style
Domestic Sphere Project 2
You are an interior designer who has been asked by your clients to analyze the design of a residence on the National Register of Historic Places.

Look under the Searchable Table for a property that is of interest to you.
Sketch the design of the exterior. Annotate the design elements that show the historic style.
Sketch the design of 2 detail elements on the exterior with a larger scale. Annotate the materials that are used in the design.
In 2-3 paragraph form, describe the history of the home including the location, date, and relevant information from your research. Include citations.
Write a short design concept with the following information:
Describe the colors of the exterior
Describe the design elements of the exterior
Describe the principles and elements of design that reflect the historical style
Public Sphere Project 1
You are an interior designer who has been asked by your client, the City of Corvallis, to analyze the design of an Administrative, or Public-Facing Facility from the Corvallis Facilities Needs Assessment Document. The document is under Files Week 7.
Select one facility listed on page 6, either Administrative or Public-Facing.
Read the document, summarizing the major concerns with the recommended needs of the facilities.
Decide on a course of action for the facility.
Sketch the design of your recommended option. Add annotations with detailed information.
In 4-5 paragraph form, describe how the recommended option you have selected reflects historic development in Corvallis.
Public Sphere Project 2
You are an interior designer who has been asked by your client to analyze the designs of the top Giants from Interior Design

Create an interior space with 4 annotated elevations that reflect the design elements and principles of the Giants in the selected category.
Describe in 3-4 paragraphs the design influences that you found relevant in your research. Are there historic references in the work? If so, what are they?
