Guidelines for the Preparation of Critiques
The purpose of this assignment is to provide the students enrolled in Methods for effective teaching with an opportunity to review current professional journal articles related to the education of urban and diverse learners that address topics of special interest to the student and the course content.
Guideline for preparation of the reviews of Journal Articles
Many professional journals that feature articles and research studies related to urban and diverse learners are available to educators. Prepare a summary of the selected article, and explain why you feel the article is important. Relate the content of the article to concepts discussed in the readings and your classroom practices.
Format for the Reviews of Journals Articles
Professional journal article reviews should include four parts, typically about three (3) to five (5) pages.
Bibliographic Data. The introduction should state the name and author of the article, the date of publication, and the name of the professional journal in which the article appears (APA 6th Edition).
The content of Summary. The summary of the article’s content should highlight the article’s material that you feel is most significant.
Writer’s Reaction. Explain why you think the article’s content is of popular value to education and why it is important to teach reading across all content areas in elementary and/or secondary education.
Provide at least three examples of how the article relates to the course content, and provide support for selecting these examples. The examples should include a citation of the appropriate references. Each example should represent a separate reference.
