You will pick a genre novel (science-fiction, fantasy, urban fantasy, mystery, western, etc.) originally published in English, posting it and a brief (one paragraph) argument for it being appropriate for this assignment in the appropriate depository in this module by the deadline; I will let you know of any concerns I may have regarding it. That depository is simply a completion check-mark.
The essay is to be a minimum of 2500 words in length, follow MLA format (heading on first page – no cover sheet), and include an annotated works cited entries page and parenthetical citations, using sources to support your analysis and evaluation of the work and author. Be aware that the matter of MLA requirements (the header, the first page information, the title, and the annotated work cited entry list, which must consist of 3-5 sources [including the primary source analyzed]), do not count toward the required length for this assignment; any particularly large quotations (especially block quotations) also are not part of the required word count.
All sources for this assignment, with the sole exceptions of the primary text you have chosen to analyze and the source of your contextualization of the author’s career, must be either from the theoretically-based course readings (Plato Aristotle, Sidney, etc.) or the HCC Library databases. I must be able to access both the primary text and your secondary sources.
Each source selected for this essay must have an annotated works cited entry.

The book I have chosen to write my paper on is The Hobbit/ lord of the rings series. A correlation I find common between the books and reality is the divide of races and species. Over thousands of years at a time war is waged between groups and clans in the books over petty past grievances between them, much similar to the way race divides us today. Had they looked past these small issues in the string of time much loss and struggle could have been prevented. Fortunately, humanity still has much time to correct our previous mistakes and move on from the things that separate our love for one another.
