You are a primary-level science teacher who is coordinating a recycling awareness week for the primary grades in your school. Your first step is to create a sample agenda with a range of possible activities to distribute to the other teachers for feedback. Many teachers have enthusiastically shared their ideas in advance. For example, you know that they want to use the three elements of the slogan “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” throughout the week, so you plan to research and include at least one activity idea for each element in your agenda. The technology coordinator has also asked that you incorporate the new set of iPads in some way. Because she has a system in place of checking out iPads for half the size of any classroom, you decide to include at least one partner-based activity on your agenda.
Assignment:
Create a sample agenda for a week-long recycling awareness program. Your agenda should include three Earth science activities total, with one activity for each “R” in “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle.” One activity should be partner-based and use an iPad.
For each activity, include:
1. the learning objective
2. any other subject matter areas that will be integrated into the activity such as art, math, literacy, etc.
3. a one to two sentence activity description
4. one sentence about the activity’s performance expectations.
5. In one paragraph, summarize your research process in choosing your activities (How did you choose or come up with these activities?).
2. Be sure to read the SELF-EVALUATION section below to guide your thinking. Write your self-evaluation after you have completed your activity plan.
3. Review the assessment rubric to see how your assignment and self-evaluation will be graded.
SELF-EVALUATION
1. For each component of your activities:
a. Explain how this component addresses the issues in the scenario.
b. Give evidence from the chapter supporting this component (with citations). The citations should come from the attachments-
Sections 11-2D, 11-2E and 11-2C only. No outside sources
2. Describe and justify how your additional activities will improve teaching and learning in the scenario.
