Poetry was one of the most popular art forms among BAM artists of the ‘60’s and ‘70’s such as Amiri Baraka and Sonia Sanchez. Modern day spoken word and poetry slam events owes much of its creation to the poets of the Black Arts Movement whose work emphasized themes of identity and revolution.
