You are Mawdudi (sayid Abu-l-A ‘la)
You are apart of the Muslim league
Your first writing assignment will be an analysis of the Quran, in which you will show that the Muslims of India have no choice but to create an explicitly Islamic state that adheres to Islamic law. Did not Muhammad himself, upon emigrating with thousands of his followers to Medina, set up an explicitly Islamic government at that time? You must root your argument in the Quran, including at least a dozen specific references (half of which must not have been initially cited in your writings as found in the or in the following pages. You will likely argue that the Quran obliges its adherents to follow a “straight path” adhere to Islamic law–which makes it impossible for them to live in states that adhere to different principles; that Allah is incompatible with the image of divinity propounded by Hindus [to that end, you should cite some passages from the Bhagavad Gita, and compare them to the Quran]; that Islam obliges Muslims to form a community of faith, an umma, that makes it impossible for them to live with nonbelievers; and so on. You will advance as many arguments in support of an Islamic Pakistan, and opposed to Muslims living in a Hindu nation, as you can find. Your argument will likely be opposed by Maulana Azad, the “Muslim” cleric who now serves as President of the INC. Some of Azad’s writings appear at the end of these pages; others appear in. Azad will likely contradict many of these arguments; you should anticipate these arguments, including citations from his writings, and show why he is wrong. Lastly, you must make a presentation of these views to the Governors General. You also wish to transmit the written version of your views to the Governors General not simply as a reflection of your views, but also endorsed by the Muslim League. This means that you need to persuade a majority of the leaders of the Muslim League to accept this as a League document rather than as a statement by a single Islamic cleric.
