Watch the following video and write a report on the concert.
Include a brief background of pieces/composers performed, elements of their style, and
aesthetic evaluation/reaction to the performances are essential parts of your reports.
Use scholarly journals/e-databases for your research, and comment on the basic music elements such as melody, harmony, rhythm, etc.
• Identify the genre, style, form of the pieces… Then choose only one or two contrasting songs from the concert and analyze them (no need to analyze all of them). Focus on elements of music: formal design, texture (e.g. homophony, heterophony…) dynamics (e.g. loud, soft, gradual…) harmony (e.g. slow moving, simple, diatonic vs chromatic,…) rhythm… Did you notice any use of word painting, lining out, strophic form… Refer to chapter 2 and videos Resources tab for more information, and new musical concepts we discussed.
• I am interested in seeing you demonstrating your understanding of the concepts and terminology we talked about and applying them in your analysis.
