Assessment Brief:
You are a business consultant who has been asked to advise a multi-national company on
how they can develop their organisation in a number of different areas. You must choose a
firm who you are familiar with, and write a structured report, providing advice to them.
It is recommended that you select a company for which there is a large amount of publicly
available information. This will be helpful to you in creating your report. A maximum of two
people can select the same company, and this will be on a first-come-first-served basis.
Your company must be approved by the MODULE LEADER.
Once you have selected your company, write your report in the following way:
1. Write a brief introduction about your company.
2. Identify the current organisational structure of the company and state whether it is a
functional, divisional, matrix, or other type of structure. Explain why you think the
organisation has arranged themselves in this way. You must discuss at least two of
the five key principles of organisational structure.
3. You have been told that your company expects a significant increase in business
which requires more staff to be hired. Suggest how they might carry out the workforce
planning, recruitment, and selection which would help them hire the ‘right’ people.
4. Discuss how your company might try to improve on the quality of the
products/services that it creates.
5. Write a brief conclusion summarising what you have discussed in your report.
You are expected to make use of academic literature to help with your report and
should not just use your textbook. You will receive higher marks for demonstrating your
ability to work with peer reviewed journal papers
