Research Proposal
For your research proposal, you should
1. Title your proposal with a research question. It must be a question (not a topic, a key phrase, or a statement). For example, “Macbeth’s power and ambition” is not a research question; “Is Macbeth a victim of fate?” can be your research proposal title. You may have a list of questions but think clearly of the main question you want to investigate in your essay.
2. You can choose any question from the prompt list. You are also allowed to ask a question not listed on the prompt. I will read your proposal and approve whether it is a suitable research question for this assignment.
3. In your first paragraph, please explain why this specific topic interests you, what you have already learned about this topic, and what you don’t know about the answers to your question.
4. In the following three paragraphs, find at least three pieces of evidence in the play that are helpful in answering this question. In other words, you write down your observations from the play where you see the topic of your choice is developed in the play.
5. In your conclusion, write about what you think you may argue. This is only an attempt to come up with a preliminary thesis. Don’t worry if you can’t express it in a sophisticated way yet. You’ll get a chance to revise it later on.
Formatting:
The proposal should be 1-2 pages. It must be double-spaced, in 12-point font, in Times New Roman. You need a proper heading (Name, Class, Professor, Due Date) at the top of the first page, a title (your research question), and page numbers on the top right-hand corner of each page.
