If possible, ask someone older than you if they can reminisce about what they remember
of social conditions throughout their life. Were they alive during the Great Depression?
World War II? The Civil Rights Movement? Try to link their lived experiences with historical events outlined in Chapter 2. Ask about policies or programs developed during this time period or read about them in your text. Use the following questions/prompts to help you with your conversation and subsequent activity:
Who did you talk to?
What time period did they talk with you about?
If you weren’t able to talk with someone personally, what time period did you focus in on
with your text?
What were some of the important policies or programs developed during this time period?
Can you identify which policies and programs were residual?
Which ones were institutional?
This assignment is worth 10 points and will be graded according to the attached rubric.
