1. Explain the theory of Differential Association. According to this theory what types of programs or policies might be introduced to reduce offending.
2. Sutherland was convinced that direct face-to-face communication in intimate groups was the basis for learning the values and attitudes that lead to crime, Do you think that this is still the case today? Support your answer.
Discussion Questions:
Each week several questions will be posted that relate to the chapter(s) under review. Each student
is required to complete these discussion questions by Friday at 5:00 p.m. each week. Discussion
questions for the following week will be posted by the following Sunday. Be sure that you spend
some time with these discussion questions because it is likely that you will see some of these
questions on your exams. Therefore, if you put in the time as the discussion questions are posted,
you will have good study guides to work from. This part of the course is worth 25% of your final
grade. Also note that discussion questions should be posted in the designated area within the course
(do not email your discussion questions to the instructor).
The required text should be used as a starting point in your studies. All assignments are to be
handed in on time. Discussion questions that are posted after the deadline will not be accepted.
Therefore, it is imperative that students’ turn in their work on time.
I encourage each of you to respond to your classmate’s comments and questions in the discussion
board area so that you can learn from each other. Having said this, students are to be respectful of
each other when commenting on a response or providing opinions. Prior to the next weeks posting
I will provide feedback to the following week’s question(s).
