Case-study assignments are designed to help you engage with the topics covered in the course by applying them to real-world, global criminological issues. For these assignments, you will choose a current news story and examine the issue using one or more of the required readings, and in a short, concise 2-page (double-spaced) analysis. The assignments will be evaluated for thoughtful engagement with the issue raised in the news articles, demonstrated comprehension and integration of the theories and concepts covered in your chosen reading(s), and clarity of written communication. Questions to consider when writing your case study can include:
* What is the nature of the crime represented in the article and how do they relate to global or comparative crime and justice?
* Does the article highlight difficulties of reporting or measuring global crime?
* Based on what you have learned, and drawing from concepts and ideas from your course materials, explain the context of the crime.
* E.g., Does it demonstrate the ways in which culture or globalization impact global crime and justice?
* What action or response is suggested by the author of the article or by those cited or quoted therein, if any?
* E.g., Does the author or the article make a case for UN intervention?
* Do you support this action? Why or why not?
