Write a summary lede that emphasizes the most important Who, What, When, Where. Pay attention to your book’s directions for summary news ledes. Try to write it in Subject-Verb-Object order.
Focus your lede and your story on the most relevant news values. What are the news values here? Emphasize it/them.
Use an inverted pyramid story structure that delivers the information in descending order of importance. What’s worth including and what’s not? What can wait until lower down in the story?
Take complicated things and use your own words to make them simpler.
Assume you are a writer for the Daily Lobo and that your audience is the UNM community. Assume that this talk took place the day before you turn your story in.
Refer to the AP Style summary in the back of your textbook in order to format your text properly.

Include a max of two direct quotes. Don’t use direct quotes to deliver plain facts. Do review your chapter on Quotations and Attribution. You will lose points for mishandling quotes, so be careful.
