Think about the diversity of any reading audience. There will be readers who are younger and not as young. There will be readers who know English as their primary language and those who have English as a second language.
For the discussion this week, you will read and respond to an article written about introverts and extroverts.
Read the article, “Caring For Your Introvert” Download “Caring For Your Introvert” by Jonathan Rauch, with the understanding he is using stereotypes, humor, and sarcasm to make the point that both types need to be aware of each other in caring ways.
In your post, consider how a reader who does not catch that the writer is using those tools might respond.
How will the extrovert react?
Will they feel bullied and stop reading—a writer’s worst outcome?
How will the introvert react?
Will they feel stereotyped as weak and unable to function in the presence of an extrovert?
In a paragraph or two, discuss your reaction and what you feel would be the reaction of the introvert and the extrovert reader.
Now that you have discovered the importance of ethos, be sure to cite any quotes you present from the article. Use APA formatting for the in-text citation and the reference entry at the end of your post.
