As we have covered this week, there is a lot to plan for when predicting events that may occur. It is always better to have resources available. Remember that recourse covers a wide range of items to include, but not limited to:
Funding
Equipment
Personnel
Individuals with special skill sets
Housing
Warehouses
Etc……
At the beginning of this class, I am sure that you only thought of the participants of the Incident Command System (ICS) to only include emergency personnel, such as Police, Fire, and rescue personnel. As we have learned that there are much more individuals involved. An Incident Commander cannot be tasked with all aspects of an incident. As we discussed, the Unified Command and Emergency Operations Center Models must be established to respond effectively to a situation and preplans have to be in effect. Preplans is an effective step in responding to an incident because all of the difficult tasks of planning are already done. For example, in the tragic events of the FIU Bridge Collapse and the Surfside Building Collapse, there was heavy machinery, such as cranes and other equipment that was already accessible for emergency workers, along with the funding sources already secured.
For this discussion, you are tasked with creating a plan for a Unified Command for an incident of your choice (do not choose one that another student had already posted). You will have to list, address, and sure the resources listed above in addition to the who are the entries that are sharing operational commands and a chain of command model of your choice.
Grading Criteria
Each reflection post should have the following format:
A 300-word minimum initial post
A 150-word response to at least two classmates (each response should be at least 150 words or more)
Make sure to address all of the questions posed. Please make the replies to your fellow students, meaningful and if you disagree with something that your fellow student wrote, please be respectful.
Note: Proofread your work before posting as you will not be able to edit your original post afterward. As we have covered this week, there is a lot to plan for when predicting events that may occur.
