Module 05 Content
Choose one of the following topics and research the risks and benefits of social media related to that topic as it pertains to children, adolescents, and families. Be sure to consider how social media can both facilitate and prevent the risks associated with your chosen topic and the role of social constructionism in shaping our understanding of the topic and its consequences. Make sure to include APA citations for any sources used.
Cyberbullying
Sexting
Privacy Policies
Online Harassment
Identity Theft
Choose one theory to include in your assignment and Social Constructionism. Not sure how to weave that in? Try questions such as these:
Is it OK that everyone’s reality is a bit different?
How do we create our realities? How do children create their reality?
What role does social media play in social constructionism?
Pretend you are a social media expert and have been invited to join a podcast discussing social media risks and benefits for children, adolescents, and families. The podcast will be like an interview, with the show’s host asking you questions to gather insights for the audience. After discussing the risks and benefits, examine your chosen topic with the show’s host, and include at least one theory that supports your statements. Be sure to include information about Social Constructionism as well. How do social constructs contribute to social media usage? Write a transcript of what that interview will look like. Be sure to include citations for any information that was not originally your thought.
This assignment requires a minimum of TWO scholarly sources. One to help you support your arguments for the risks and benefits of social media, and one to help support your claims regarding your chosen topic.
