Given what you have read in chapter 11 with regard to the vignettes described throughout the chapter, what are your thoughts? Provide a very brief description of the case. Which of these cases describing the individual experiences of PwMIs is most shocking to you? Were you familiar with these sorts of atrocities and/or injustices (e.g. cells smeared with feces, death by dehydration resulting from custodial neglect, etc.) in corrections prior to reading chapter 11? Why are you disturbed (or not) by these events? Do you think such events are merely a by-product of punishment intended to deter malingering? Do you think that prison administrators and corrections officers are frequently desensitized to such issues?
