Discusion: Respond to the following questions in a minimum of 175 words:

Which facts about mathematical functions do you think might be the most helpful to you in your career or personal life? Please make certain that your explanation centers on a mathematical function as explained in your readings for this week.
Pick one situation from your life (personal, professional, or even academic) in which you would be able to use one of the concepts related to functions presented this week. How can the concepts that we are learning this week provide additional information for making an informed decision? Please be specific and fully explain the math behind your example. Your response post must include an example that demonstrates your function in the form y=mx+b as explained in section 2, subsection 3. Be sure to define each variable. (Please be sure that your example makes sense – running a sample calculation is highly recommended.)

this first section of this math class was extremely interesting to me. I have always put money away in my 401k but have never really understood how it works. Recently I have been interest in looking at what exactly my money is going toward, how much of a percentage I put in and how much my employer will match.

The company that I work for is kind enough to match hall of what you put in, up to 5%. This is free money! So I obviously want to make sure that I put at least 5% away. Now based on previous classes I’ve taken and information given to me by my company I need a certain amount to be able to retire comfortably by the age of 65. Since I started my 401k later in life, I need to put more than the 5%. Based their minimum suggestion for my retirement, I should put away 8% into my 401k, with a 1% increase each year. I would love to make a graph like the ones shown in this chapter showing over the years what my savings would look like! I think it would be a great example for the math equation. Y – the number of years until retirement, m – the % of how much is taken from my salary, x would be the 5% company match and b would be the 1% increase pee year.

The fact about mathematical functions I think might be the most helpful to me in my personal life is learning the different concepts in this chapter. It has helped me solve math calculations used in my everyday life. I have been working on a budget to take my grandkids’ to fun events on spring break next week. I learned how to put myself on a budget to enjoy doing more personal things with my family. One thing I budget for is to take my grandkids’ to fun events for spring break next week. I was able to save enough money to go to Urban air, Top-Golf, Indoor Karting, and bowling. I even saved enough for meals we will eat more than once daily. I will have a 14-year-old, 12, and 3-year-old to entertain and feed. We all know that could be very costly. By cutting back on Starbucks, eating at restaurants, and fast food places, and picking up junk food at gas stations for a few months, my two girls and I were able to save close to $1000.00 just for spring break spending.

This section demonstrated functions that helped me with planning my grandson’s motorsport event. My daughter and I are planning an event for my grandson’s 4th birthday in July. We are planning on having 20 kids and 10 adults at the event. My daughter has to pay $15 for each child and the adults are responsible for their own cost which is $10 each. The math behind my example would look like this 400=15x+10.
