Question: What are the implications of social learning theory for teaching students prosocial behavior?
respond to post
Social learning theory is based on the idea that children learn in social settings by observing and imitating the behavior they see. It is based on three key concepts: that people can learn through observation, that mental state affects this learning process, and that just because something has been learned does not mean that it will result in a change in the person’s behavior.
The social learning theory was developed by Albert Bandura and in it he explains that it would be very dangerous if people learned only based on their experience, as previously thought, instead of through observing others and learning from their actions. . For example, if a student is cheating on a test and is punished by the teacher, classmates may learn that such actions are wrong by seeing the consequences of their classmate’s actions. “Fortunately, in most humans, behavior is learned observationally through modeling: Observing others forms an idea of how new behaviors are performed, and on subsequent occasions, this encoded information serves as a guide for action (Pierce, W. D., & Bandura, A.)
