Choose a recent story and compare/contrast how it was covered across three different news media outlets. If you’re dealing with a big topic (say, the elections or the war in Ukraine), choose one specific incident/event to focus your analysis.
Choose one source from Group A: CNN, MSNBC, New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, NPR, The Guardian
Choose one source from Group B: Fox News, Breitbart, Daily Caller, National Review, The Economist
Choose one source from Group C: Common Dreams, Democracy Now!, The Intercept, Pro Publica, Slate
The important goal of this assignment is to find interesting differences between each outlet’s coverage of the same story, so don’t pick examples that are all basically saying the same thing.
Quoting specific examples, demonstrate how the same topic was presented differently across these different news media outlets. Are they quoting from different sources or relying on different information? Did you find one more persuasive or effective than the others? If so, explain why.
Three pages, double-spaced. Use proper MLA format.
You must cite your sources, quoting them in the body of the paper and including a Works Cited page at the end.
Give your paper an original title and put your last name and page number in the upper right corner of each page.
