1) Application and Analysis (1 page)
For this paper, you will imagine living as a deontologist and compare it to what it would be like to live like a utilitarin. Then analyze each experience by drawing explicit connections to Kant and Mill’s theories and explaining how your
experiences fit into the deontological or utilitarian frameworks. You should make several connections to the material throughout this section that demonstrates more than a basic grasp of the general idea(s). Cite every time you reference Kant or Mill (not just for direct quotes). To demonstrate a deeper understanding of the material, you might: refer to the underlying reasoning, evidence in support of an idea, implications the author discusses (or doesn’t discuss), how the idea fits within the broader argument or interpretive framework, objections and how the author might respond, etc.
2) Compare the experiences. (1/2 page)
How did the two experiences differ? How were they similar? Consider both the actions you performed and the reasoning you engaged in when choosing to perform those action.
3) Reflect on your experience. (1/2 page)
Based on your application, analysis, and comparison, which theory do you think is better? In premise and conclusion form, state your argument. Then give a reason or two in support of each premise.
