Using the research article I selected for the “Select Research Article” assignment, carefully read the method and results section, then break it down into the parts required in the outline. The outline does not need to have complete sentences, but rather complete thoughts or ideas. See article outline template for specific information to include. Also see the article outline sample.
The outline should include:
• citation (authors last names and year)
• a statement of the study goal
• describe the sample
• clearly indicate the study design (experiment, quasi-experiment, or correlation)
• label the relevant variables as:
– for an experimental study: independent variable, dependent variable
– for a quasi-experimental study: quasi-independent variable, quasi-dependent variable
– for a correlational study: predictor variable, outcome variable
• clearly describe how each variable was measured or manipulated. If the variable was an independent or quasi-independent variable, describe each condition or level. For measured variables, provide sample items
• clearly describe the procedure
• clearly describe the full pattern of results
