I am applying to Xavier University of New Orleans.
I want to study under their Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I want to study this because I want to work with the school system to better the mental health of every student. I am currently working as a high school teacher and a suicide prevention specialist. I have a foundation called The Belle Ame Foundation for students struggling with mental health and suicidal ideations from being bullied in schools. My goal after recieving my masters is to open up my
own private practice and collaborate with the school system for elementrary, middle and high schools so that students have a safe space to communicate with profesionals about their mental health problems. I also want to use my degree and certifications to open my own mental health hotline strictly for students. There are hotlines out there for mental health but not many for students.Working in the school system now has shown me that not many students have someone to talk to because they feel no one can relate to them. I suffered with my mental health for years in school due to bullying and I want every student in every school to know that someone cares for them mentally and emotionally, not just academically.
