As we’ve seen, Thomas Paine believes that government is necessary only because of people’s moral failings. Yet, the idea of government presumes that those flawed people can rule. With reference to several readings assigned address this paradox. What conceptions of human nature are evident in the readings, and how do the writers/political actors attempt to deal with them and create good government?
