This is the preliminary step to writing the term paper. For this assignment, you will choose one of the topics below and write an introductory paragraph which will include a thesis statement. The topics are intentionally general so that you may develop your own argument/approach to a given topic (for example, under the Great Depression/New Deal, you could write a paper about how Black people are disproportionately affected by unemployment due to the added pressure of racism, or about how Black people were at times left out of New Deal programs, etc.). Remember: once you’ve chosen your topic for this assignment you need only submit the opening paragraph and thesis statement.
