Write a topic sentence that clearly names the full title and full name of the author
and explains the main focus or situation in the story. Example: Doreen Cronin’s modern fantasy picture book, Giggle, Giggle, Quack, uses farm animals that act human to create a funny story about what animals do when the farmer is away. Do not copy or plagiarize my example. Use it as a guide to help you write your own topic sentence.
-Summarize the plot of the story. Describe enough of the plot so that someone who has not read the story understand what it is about.
-Discuss the characters in the story and what the characters represent. Discuss the roles of Farmer Brown and his brother, Bob. Discuss the role of Duck.
-Discuss the use of fantasy elements in the story. Discuss the behavior of the animals and what they represent. Discuss the realistic elements in the story and how they help develop the humor of the fantasy elements.
