There is some excel work with this as long as a 1 page paper and a short PowerPoint Presentation. If you feel you would need more compensation to complete this order, that’s fine. The deliverables for this assignment therefore consist of: 1. A short paper (max one page – double spaced) answering the question posed above in 1.
2. Two excel tables (well labeled and readable with calculated numbers).
3. A power point presentation detailing your proposed solution for Patel in India. You do not need to include the tables in your presentation necessarily, but the critical numbers should be included and presented clearly in your presentation.

COTTLE TAYLOR CASE (from coursepack)
1. The case presents a slight conflict between Patel (the marketing manager for India) and her boss, Mr. Lang. Write a short paper answering the following question (max 1 page): According to your reading, is Cottle Taylor in India a deployment, development, or deepening strategy? Why?
Answering this question will help you in your business case analysis.
2. Your second job will be to construct the business case for Ms. Patel. Follow the instructions below to help you prepare for your presentation.

Please use the following assumptions to construct this table:
a. the base numbers are found in Table 7 in the case.
b. Patel’s 20% unit increase is achieved with the following unit growth rates: Low end: Complete/Sensitooth/Fresh Gum (20%), Surround/Kidsie (8%); Mid range (25%); Battery operated (10%)
c. Patel and Lang both assume a 20% increase in prices.
d. Lang’s 29% growth is achieved with the following growth units: Low end (16%), Mid range (120%), Battery operated (25%).
Once you have constructed this table, you will have the revenue figures to plug into the next excel table.
3. Construct an excel file that represents the following Income statements:
a. An income statement for Patel 2010 estimates
b. An income statement for Lang 2010 estimates (with his projected 3% increase in advertising spending).
Note: These income statements should be constructed using the percentages found in Exhibit 9 of the case.
Please make sure that the tables are printable and readable when printed.
They should be clearly labeled and presented in professional manner.
The numbers should be CALCULATED numbers in the tables, using formulas. DO NOT calculate offline and then enter the numbers. You will not get credit if the tables are constructed without formulas. You will need to HAND IN your excel file together with the written assessment.
Once you have constructed these excel tables, take a look at the numbers and think about what they tell you.
4. Now, please write an analysis of what you have found and what you think is the right strategy to pursue.
Your analysis should begin with a short summary of the problem and the two alternatives.(from question 1 above).
Then, using this quantitative analysis, and any other facts from the case that you think are relevant, decide what you think the strategy should be for 2010. Use the definition of strategy that we have learned from Porter to construct your argument. Which segments should they target, with which products and with which activities? What are the tradeoffs with the policy that you recommend?
Also, reflect on how both the qualitative analysis in the case, and the quantitative analysis of doing an income statement analysis guided your reasoning. What have you learned from this exercise? Had you not done the quantitative analysis, would your suggested strategy been the same?
You main deliverable is your business case presentation to the Board. You play the role of Ms. Patel. You will be making this presentation to the CEO of Cottle Taylor and the top management. Mr. Lang will be present at your presentation. Follow the instructions in your reading (Module 4) carefully for the structure of the presentation. You should have no more than 10 slides, and you may have fewer. The slides should be professional, clear and to the point. Check the rubric and your reading for grading criteria. Please follow the guidelines presented in your reading when preparing your power point presentation.
