How did America begin?
Using Mary Rowlandson, Jonathan Edwards, Death of General Wolfe, American Yawp, and any other other material you watched or read in Unit 1 (you don’t have to use every source, but try to cite at least three), offer an American origin story. Each author offers political and social concepts, as well as observations about human nature, family life, religion, empires and nations, race, and slavery. Take one of these themes and argue for its significance to the American experience to 1820 as explained through one or more of this unit’s writers.
Begin your essay with a hook or anecdote and then offer a major claim (the argument or thesis of your essay). Then build supporting paragraphs that explain and analyze specific sections of text. You should have at least two sections of the text(s) that you offer as evidence for your major claim. Offer a conclusion that brings the evidence together to be certain that the reader knows you have made your case.
Use 11 or 12 point font in 4 complete, double-spaced pages.
