Reply to these three post not just agreeing with them
1. Part1: My name is Dishawn Elliott and I am Active Duty Air Force. I am currently stationed at MacDill AFB and soon going through the process of separating. I am originally from the hectic City of Baltimore in Maryland. Prior to joining the military, I use to be a collegiate Track and Field athlete. My goal was to be apart of the AIr Force Track team but it didn’t workout in my favor. I enjoy playing video games, relaxing and watching all sports. I am working towards my psychology degree in hopes to become a counselor for troubled youth. Some goals I have throughout this course is to stay focus, start or complete assignments in a timely manner and learn from all of you.
Part 2:
My definition of abnormality is something that is not socially acceptable, something that is out of place. I’ve witnessed people of all ages throw tantrums and become aggressive. Mental health disorders are one of the most common reasons for placing children on medication so that they can be able to function properly. My experience growing up has exposed me to children who attempted suicide when they were suffering from feelings of loneliness and despair. I personally know the impact someone’s environment may have on them. We see behavioral issues as a result of environmental factors often triggering mental health disorders. The long-term impact of medication on an individual’s mental health is something I am interested in learning more about. What do you believe is a factor that may play an important role in determining someone’s mental health?
2. My name is Kristina Gray. I am a wife, mother, worker for a geological drilling company, and a student. I was in the Army for 7 years before getting out in 2020. This is actually my third time starting school and I am determined to finish my degree in psychology this time. I choose this class as my first class back because I find the human mind very interesting. As of right now I do not have plans after getting my degree, but I have faith it will lead me to the right occupation. My first goal for this class is getting my time management on a tight schedule, in the past I feel like that was the hardest thing to handle. My second goal is to learn and deep dive into the topic of psychopathology. And finally, I would like to learn for everyone in this class, like their perspective on this topic.
My own conceptual model of abnormality is to stray away from the social standards from wherever you reside. In my opinion, I believe it is a combination of unconscious factors, biological, learning, and the environment. For example, we all come from different backgrounds and walks of lives, and we all have different view on life. I do not think there is a normal or abnormal way of life, as long as it is not harming others. I believe that society does label abnormalities’ abnormal because it is new or different from their own beliefs.
My question for the class is, what is something that you do in your household what would be considered abnormal? Mine is that I do not let my dogs on the furniture. I know it is controversial but it’s just something we have always done.
3. PART I
My name is Lauren Mitchell and I am active duty in the Army and am stationed at Fort Bragg NC. I am currently working as a behavioral health specialist on post, and I am about three quarters of the way done with my bachelor’s degree. I am very interested in psychopathology as I work in this behavioral health clinic and work with providers who use many different diagnoses for our patients. Three goals I have for this class are to maintain above a B throughout the course, learn about different mental disorders that I have not been familiarized with yet, and also learn more in detail about different mental disorders.
PART II
My conceptual model of abnormality is something that is not normal, something considered to be unusual, depends on how you see it. There are many things why I believe may cause any type of abnormality. Most of all I believe that there are two factors in which we can consider something abnormal. One is what we learn in conjunction with the environment in which we find ourselves can have a significant impact on abnormality. Then again, our abnormality can be considered normal to some and abnormal to others depending on how you see it and what type of environment you grew up in. If genetics had anything to do with it our environment can possibly ignite it more or cause it to mellow. That is why I believe our environment and what we learn plays a huge part into how we look what normal is or abnormal. Abnormalities is just an overall combination of many factors that can possibly trigger it to high levels or mellow it out. What exactly do we consider normal? Everyone’s normal state can be different.
