Health Disparities & Access to Care – Answer both questions below.

In chapter 1 Brawley (2012) introduces the reader to Grady Memorial Hospital. He draws a parallel between the everyday occurrences and systemic problems in the broader American health care system: “In the case of Edna Riggs, the abstract, scholarly term health disparities acquires a very real smell of a rotting breast” (p. 9). Lack of access to health care is an urgent and highly controversial issue. Brawley argues that too much access is equally problematic.
1) Summarize Brawley’s definition of health disparities and discuss two examples from the text of how healthcare access in the US is affected by social status or social conditions.
2) Discuss two examples, one from the text and one from a personal experience that illustrates how too much access to health care can negatively impact a patient’s health. If you do not have any experience with this, two discuss examples from the text.
