1. Epidemiology is a discipline that can be applied to many other varied disciplines, both within and outside the health sciences. What is your discipline and how has epidemiology been applied in this field? How might you personally apply epidemiologic principles and skills in your professional life?
2. How does epidemiology differ from other clinical health professions?
3. We discussed how epidemiology is concerned with determinants or risk factors. Identify 3 different risk factors (different from those mentioned in the lecture) and a disease outcome that could be associated with those risk factors.
4. Epidemics or outbreak occur in the United States and elsewhere across the globe. Do some online reasearch to identify a real-life outbreak that has occurred in the last 12 months. Describe the outbreak, why it occurred and the population of people affected. If the outbreak has subsided, what was done to control it? If the outbreak is ongoing, what could potentially be done to control it? How might the discipline of epidemiology be used to help prevent a similar outbreak from occurring in the future?
