, and read five or six of the stories online of Sherry Turkle’s “Falling for
Science” for reference.
In selecting your personal story, consider this- the first sentence of
Turkle’s book is “This book is about science, technology and love.” The
narrative voice of your story, thus your tone, is up to you, but intend to move
the reader to have some unique insight on your character, and how
technology has formed an aspect of who you are today.
Love is a profound life-altering, and occasionally frustrating and even
damaging phenomenon.
It’s often confused with lust, which in the end is fleeting, ephemeral,
superficial, and easily replaced with another object of lust.
If your technology is interesting you because it’s “cool”, but you can see
another “cool” thing next week and forget entirely this momentary
attachment, that’s technology lust.
If it’s an object you love, you not only have a story about it, it’s a story that
hits you at the core so hard you’re convinced you will tell it with equal
fervour in 2030.
So, here, aim for a technology that’s more about love than lust.

everything from things we can expect (e.g., Lego, old computers) to things
that aren’t the first things you think of (e.g, Gumby, Easy Bake Ovens, fly

really compelling.
