This is an Allied Health Leadership Degree so the paper needs to be within healthcare, I personally work within surgical technology and if possible you can always use that as a backup option for different topic choices.
Comparison/contrast of sources
Pick a topic and do a google search to find information on that topic from a popular source (website, magazine, etc).
Then use a library database to find a scholarly journal article (primary source research article*) on the same topic.
Read through both sources of information.
Write a short (2-3 pages) paper in which you compare and contrast the writing, information, references, and any other elements of the sources as appropriate.
In your paper, you will:
Be specific – give examples of how the sources compare and contrast (assume your reader hasn’t read the sources; make it clear to the reader what you are saying).
Include information from readings/tutorials to support your assessment of the sources
Follow APA format (see your style manual)
Include a cover page and reference page (not included in the page count)
Include proper use of grammar and spelling and good writing style
Your grade will be based on not just inclusion of each of these elements but also on how well you make your case for the comparison/contrast.
If you need assistance with writing, I encourage you to use the writing tutors in the CFAA.
*You MUST use a primary source research study article. Failure to do so will result in grade devastation. I BEG of you to please check out the following link to make absolutely sure you understand what a primary article is. Many students confuse review articles and primary sources, and SPOILER ALERT: they’re not the same thing. So to avoid wasting your time and mine, please make certain you are evaluating a primary source. There are several examples of research study articles in the content section so you can see what’s included. There is also a link to a great source: Is it Primary? How do I know? And don’t hesitate to check with me if you aren’t sure! Please check with me well in advance of the due date though because I don’t live on email on the weekends. 🙂
Some general advice on this paper:
1. Make sure you compare and contrast the sources.
2. Back up your statements. For example, it’s not enough to say, “The language in both articles is similar.” You need to provide examples to support this. Ask yourself, “How, or in what way, are they similar?” and then answer this.
3. Before you submit your paper, read it over and after each statement of assessment, ask “How?” or “In what way?” to make sure that you have actually answered these questions.
4. Edit carefully! Review the Tips for writing!
