In this assignment, you will investigate and report on the factors influencing social and emotional during the first three years of life. Imagine you have been invited to discuss this topic and develop your article. Suggested length is 5-7 pages. You will need to do the following:
Part 1:
Begin by locating information about the social and emotional development milestones observed during the very early years.
Report in writing about the following:
Briefly define social and emotional development during the first three years of life.
Identify the key theories describing social and emotional development.
Define attachment and its importance for a child’s emotional development.
Explain the factors that support attachment.
Discuss the elements influencing the emergence of a sense of self.
Reflect on the implications about social and emotional development for early childhood professionals.
Part 2:
Conduct observations of two young children in settings serving infants and toddlers (6 months to age 2). You could also conduct observations in home, church, or community settings.
Complete at least two observations (minimum 20 minutes each).
Note interactions of children and adults and take notes during each of the observations on the ways adults respond (gestures, verbal, and actions) to the child. Observe how the responses socially and emotionally support the child.
Include a reflection with comments about your observations as part of your report. Be sure to refer to specific theories, milestones, and/or stages from your readings and research.
