Case Analysis: A Day in the Life of Alex Sander
Assignment Guidelines:

You should upload the written case analysis and presentation slides to this assignment box
The written analysis (maximum of 35 points) should be a maximum of four pages (single-spaced), excluding appendices and works cited. It should be clear, concise, and grammatically correct. Formatting should include headings, and subheadings if appropriate. Specifically, three main headings (Situation Summary, Problem Statement(s), and Recommendations) should be used and are explained below.

1. Brief Situation Summary (5 points)
o Concisely summarize key facts of case
2. Problem Statement(s) (10 points)
o Clearly identify each problem statement, and then describe the problems in the case; indicate importance of the issues and explain why they are important
3. Recommendations (20 points)
1.
o Recommendations are clearly connected to the problem statement, are evidence-based, and provide meaningful resolution to the identified problem
The oral presentation (maximum of 15 points) will supplement your written analysis. You should think of this as an additional tool with which to present your analysis, and an additional opportunity to persuade your audience that your analysis is well-organized, thorough, logical, and evidence based.

• The content/meat of the presentation should mirror all of the written case analysis requirements noted above.
• The presentation slides should be of professional quality, well-organized, clear, and easy to understand.
• The presentation length should be approximately 12-15 minutes (not counting q & a).
• All team members should have a speaking part in the presentation.
In total, the case analysis is worth a maximum of 50 points.

• Be mindful of the above weighting for each section of the analysis as you prepare the paper and presentation.
o Example: The length of the Brief Situation Summary in the paper should not exceed half of one page, and the length of speaking time devoted to this section in the oral presentation should be appropriately brief as well.
Approach this case as if your team were making a professional recommendation to the organization. As you prepare your analysis, you may consider the following questions:
1. How should highly talented but difficult personalities be managed?
2. Are these individuals worth the investment?
3. How can personality shortcomings that limit their effectiveness be overcome?
4. What are the criteria for an effective review process?
5. What are the advantages and disadvantages of Sander’s tough-guy approach?
