It is decision taken by a Competition Authority regarding this case, we need to examine it
In your essay, you are expected to start by briefly presenting the case, and then by researching the
relevant market, describe what the current state of competition in that market is. You will need to
show an understanding of the theory, extra reading from the academic literature, and a good
comprehension of the case. Relevant data collection and analysis will be seen as a plus.
Below, we offer a check-list of requirements/questions that you can address in your essay. This is not
a comprehensive list. Feel free to address other points and disregard some of them if they are not
relevant for your case.
Ö A brief discussion of the case – why was it investigated by the Competition Authority
Ö Identify the main players (companies).
Ö If possible, find out the companies’ market shares or the number of competitors in the market.
Ö Discuss the strategies adopted by the firms.
Ö Possibly, address these questions:
o Is competition domestic or international or both?
o Is there any competition with online platforms?
o What is the history of this market?
Ö If you were to find data, please feel free to report and discuss summary statistics or, if you are
adventurous (and lucky with the data), use some econometrics to describe your results.
Ö Contextualise the case alongside relevant material covered in class
The opening paragraph should define the relevant concept(s) and possibly discuss why the topic is
interesting, i.e., try to answer the “so what” question if you can. The conclusion should be a quick
summary of the key concepts have addressed in your essay. Work as much as you can on the writing
flow since it is a core part of the essay. Check this link for guidelines on how to write a good essay:

and live sessions. We will consider this aspect in our marking.
