Write a research paper on One of the themes in Marigolds is that poverty is a “cage” that limits people’s lives and can prevent them from experiencing life’s beauty. Sometimes, however, like Miss Lottie, people try to create beauty and light in the dust and darkness.
In a carefully written essay, examine how Miss Lottie and one other character you’ve read about in this course (this may be a character from a story or novel) try to “create beauty and light in the darkness.” As you examine these characters, include direct quotes from the texts to support your discussions of their efforts.
Additionally, include a discussion of a time in your life when you, or someone you know, have felt “surrounded by darkness” and you, or the person you know, have “created beauty.” Please keep in mind the following requirements for this assignment:
Include direct quotes to support your discussions of Miss Lottie and one other character from another text in the course who created beauty and light in the darkness.
Include a discussion from your life when you, too, “have planted marigolds,” or created beauty in darkness. (If you do not have a personal experience, you may describe the experience of someone you know.)
Your essay must be at least 800 words in length.
