Explain the Principle of Sufficient Reason (PSR) as Leibniz and Du Châtelet understand it. Then explain Hume’s discussion of the idea of necessary connection in section VII of his Enquiry, including his redefinition of causation in part two of that section. Consider these two questions: does the PSR as they understand it postulate a necessary connection between events and does Hume’s redefinition of causation conflict with, or undermine, the PSR or leave it untouched?
