He lives in a ground-floor flat in Swansea with his mother; he has limited sporadic contact with his father, who has moved away from the area. He is waiting for further surgery for the septal defect in his heart. His mother is trying to secure a nursery place for Ben in a setting that can support his medical needs. His maternal family lives 200 miles away. Ben’s mother was a student at Swansea University studying Engineering but has not completed her third year and has not worked since Ben was born. She met Ben’s father at University.
