Developing a logic model within the organizational context
In this assignment, you will be asked to outline the work of a local organization and to develop a logic model for a new or existing program within it. For this assignment, you will use Framingham Public High School.
Purposes
1. Learning how to assess the missions and work of organizations, including the
financial aspects and those related to diversity and inclusion, are important skills
for social workers.
2. Understanding and articulating the key aspects of logic models within
organizational contexts is a useful skill—and way of thinking—for program
development and evaluation, as well as seeking funding for new and existing
programs.
Steps
1. Review:
• The frameworks for assessing human service organizations.
• The Logic Model Workbook (see attached pdf).
• The materials on inclusive workplaces.

2. Using an abbreviated version of the Netting and colleagues (2012) framework,
assess your field agency using the following elements:
• Briefly describe the agency, including its mission, location(s), number of
employees, and number of board members.
• Describe what programs and services the organization offers. To what
extent are these programs based on evidence? How are outcomes
assessed?
• How does the agency promote diversity among its staff, board members,
and volunteers? How do the staff, board members, and volunteers reflect
the community(ies) and clients, customers, or participants served?
• What does the organizational culture feel like? If you had the power to
change it to better achieve its mission, increase employee morale, or make
other improvements, what would you do?
• Briefly give an overview of the organization’s budget. What are the
organization’s total revenues and expenses? (If a nonprofit organization,
this information should be found in the organization’s IRS Form 990.)
What are the largest sources of funding? How does the agency’s budget
and mix of funding sources impact its ability to adapt or meet its clients’
needs?
• How does your organization collaborate with others?

3. Then, identify a new or existing program that you wish to map using a logic
model framework, map it, and describe it:
• Use the template provided by the Logic Model Workbook (2010) or
Halvorsen (2020) to complete a full logic model on this program. If you
like, feel free to use a design program when developing your model. For example, using Canva.com. Include the logic model in your paper as an appendix.
• Then, write a narrative describing your logic model. Specifically:
 What is the problem this program is attempting to solve or the
issue it is attempting to address, and what is the ultimate goal for
the program?
 What are the rationale and assumptions that support this program?
 What are the activities, outputs, and short- and long-term outcomes
of the program?
• In completing the model and writing the narrative, make sure you clearly
articulate each section of the logic model. Further, you may need to
“stretch” in some of these sections as you may not have all the information
you would normally have access to when developing a logic model. You
will need to use other sources in the professional literature or from
organizational or other data sources to supplement your narrative (e.g.,
including evidence when providing your rationale).
In total, your paper should be no more than 10 pages, double spaced, not including the
attached logic model and APA-style reference list.
