Students will be responsible for submitting a two-page “Group Counseling” article critique. This article must be empirically based and provide research as to why the therapeutic technique or theory you are examining should be utilized with families or individuals in a group counseling setting (This article must be a research study, failure to do so will result in a failing grade on the paper). This article should challenge you to critically evaluate the author’s claims and give you the opportunity to develop your own analytical skills by deciding if this is a technique you would suggest using. You must use resources from approved databases such as those provided through the library. As part of your summary, you must provide the reference information for the journal article above the summary in your paper.
Your paper must be structured by having 2 subheadings (inside cover of APA 7th edition) that are Summary (of the article) and Critique (of the article). The paper must be in this format and also include the citation for the article which will be at the top of your paper.
Citation will include the name of the author, date, article title, journal, number, pages, (APA style). This is a citation just as you would do on a reference page. It should be at the top of your paper just under your name.
Summary- of the article including the empirical evidence or quotations of specific claims about what the family therapy or the group therapy technique does. Be sure to include the outcome or findings of the research- was it effective?
Critique (spend most of your time here)- this is a critical evaluation of the content of the article from your perspective including if you would utilize the information you gathered (why or why not) and discuss any limitations or strengths that you see in the article. This is also where you need to use some of your research knowledge. For instance, does the sample size seem large enough, do they acknowledge limitations, or do you see others, what about a survey or questionnaire used- was it validated?
Make sure that you have correct grammar and spelling.
