Task Details/Description:
A. DATA ANALYSIS (25 marks) (500 words):
The SPSS dataset Ethical Leadership Survey_2022-23.sav includes
responses of 248 sales assistant employees of a large retailer to questions relating to their perceptions of their line manager, their organisation, and their own behaviours/attitudes towards their job. Specifically, the survey sought employee perceptions on the following variables:
Line manager ethical leadership (elead1 elead10). An ethical leader is one who does the morally right thing and also encourages their employees to act ethically and morally at all times.
Organisational ethical climate (climate1 climate5). An ethical climate is one that emphasises a collective and shared supportive and caring community. A community that cares about each other, as well as their customers and the wider environment.
Their own organisational citizenship behaviour (ocb1 ocb5). Employees that exhibit organisational citizenship behaviour are those that go beyond what is expected in their job role. Specifically, in this survey, the helping of others within the organisation.
Their own turnover intentions (turnover1 turnover3). Specifically, their intentions at the time of the survey to voluntarily leave the company in the near future.
As control variables, the survey also measured employees age (years), gender and length of service (tenure) (months) in the organisation.
COURSEWORK ASSIGNMENT
Using the SPSS dataset Ethical Leadership Survey_2022-23.sav, you are asked to test the following hypotheses:
H1: Employee perceptions of their line manager ethical leadership is positively related to their perceptions of an organisational ethical climate.
H2a: Employee perceptions of ethical climate is positively related to their OCB and mediates the positive relationship between their perceptions of line manager ethical leadership and their OCB.
H2b: Employee perceptions of ethical climate is negatively related to their turnover intentions and mediates the negative relationship between their perceptions of line manager ethical leadership and their turnover intentions.
The hypotheses above can be represented by the figure below (Figure 1). Note, this is a mediation model.
Figure 1: Hypothesised Mediation Model
To test these hypotheses effectively you need to run, systematically, the following analysis below:
Pre-Analysis:
Under the sub-heading Pre-Analysis above,
1. The average/aggregated scores for ethical leadership (EL), ethical climate (Climate) and organisational citizenship (OCB) have already been calculated. Please calculate the average/aggregated score for employees
Turnover Intentions (turnover1 turnover3). In your SPSS dataset, label this new aggregated variable Turnover.
2. Run Cronbach Alpha reliability tests for the variables, ethical leadership (elead1 elead10), ethical climate (climate1 climate5), organisational Ethical Leadership
Ethical Climate
OCB
Turnover
Intentions
citizenship behaviour (ocb1 ocb5), and turnover intentions (turnover1
turnover3). Record your results clearly in your pre-analysis section and reflect briefly on whether each variable is reliable and whether it should be used in your analysis.
3. Run a T-test exploring mean differences between Men and Women on the aggregated variables organisational citizenship behaviour (OCB), and turnover intentions (Turnover). Record your results clearly in your preanalysis section and reflect briefly on whether gender should be controlled for in your main hypotheses testing.
4. Run a correlation matrix that includes the following variables age, tenure, ethical leadership (Leadership), ethical climate (Climate), organisational citizenship behaviour (OCB), and turnover intentions (Turnover). Make sure you request means and standard deviations for all relevant variables.
Record your results clearly as a correlation matrix in your pre-analysis section and reflect briefly on whether age and tenure should be controlled for in your main hypotheses testing.
Main Hypothesis Testing:
Under the sub-heading Main Hypothesis Testing above:
5. Using SPSS and the PROCESS macro, run the required regression analysis to test the three hypotheses. Record your results clearly, summarise the findings, and provide a brief interpretation.
