Develop a situational interview for a job of your choice.
Provide a description of the job and its requirements. Write three to five situational
interview questions for this job – questions that ask an applicant how he or she would
respond in hypothetical job situations. After you have thought of the questions, come up
with a way to score the responses for each question: On the low end of the scale (a score
of 1), indicate what you feel would be a poor answer. On the high end of the scale (a
score of 5), indicate what you feel would be a very good answer. Finally, in the middle of
the scale (a score of 3), indicate what you feel would be an average answer. Now,
administer the questions to two different individuals and transcribe their answers and
include them in the report (these can be friends, coworkers, etc.). Score the answers based
on the scales you developed. Discuss the quality of the answers and what you learned
about interviewing by completing this project (such as what worked well, what to avoid,
and so forth). Discuss how, in a real situation, you would decide what situational
interview questions to ask, and how you would/should determine the quality of an answer
in order to develop your scoring scale. Also, at some point in the report discuss
interviews and your general impression of the selection interview (including the
difference between an open-ended interview and a situational interview and the
advantages and disadvantages of each).
