Select a nursing practice topic of interest (e.g Falls in the ER or nurse retention) or generate a nursing practice question that you would like to answer.
Search CINAHL, Medline, or Google Scholar, to locate two (2) research articles pertaining to the selected topic. Articles should be no more than “about” 10 years old (i.e. 11-12 years is fine!). I am referring to the publication date. If you choose falls in the ER for example, each article should pertain to falls in the ER. You will complete a three- to four-page paper* to include each of the following:
In two (2) paragraphs, discuss the relevance of the research question and topic to nursing practice. In other words, tell us why this topic or issue should be important to nurses.
Identify and briefly (i.e. 3-4 sentences) discuss the study methodology (e. g. qualitative) and design (e. g. ethnography or RCT) for each article
Briefly (i.e. 1 paragraph) discuss how theoretical foundations/theories strengthen the reliability and validity of research (in general).
In two (2) paragraphs, discuss any conceptual models, theories or theoretical frameworks (Ex. Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs) associated with the research for each article. If the authors fail to mention what theories or models guided their work, make an educated guess as to what theories or models you think might have informed their work. Please provide an explanation of why you chose that framework or theory.
Identify the EBP purpose of each study according to Table 1.2 (10th ed. Polit & Beck, 2021, p. 13)
In two to three (2-3) paragraphs, discuss the implications (i.e. suggestions or recommendations) of the study’s findings for nursing practice. Don’t forget to include how the findings are applicable to your own practice setting. *NOTE: Title page and References are NOT included in the page count.
