Below are the guidelines for paper
Goals:
To analyze and interpret primary and secondary sources.
To identify biases, distortions and inaccuracies in primary sources.
To explain how a particular primary source can enhance our understanding of US history.
How to Achieve Term Paper Success:
1. Analyze a historical topic: Include what the topic is, what happened, and why. Facts are important in setting
the stage. Use both primary and secondary sources. Form a good introductory paragraph to your topic
2. Interpret and analyze the sources. Primary sources are key….these are eyewitness accounts. Secondary
sources must also be used. What have other historians said about this topic? What have they argued? Why is
their interpretation important? Do you agree or disagree with their assessment? Refer to the directions for
primary and secondary source definitions.
3. Provide your own argument: Essentially, why is this historical topic important? Why should we care? What
is the IMPACT and SIGNIFICANCE of the topic? This is your assessment and it can also be the assessment
of other historians too. This should occur in the final page of your paper.
Please have atleast 3 primary and 4 secondary sources
