Introduction to micro-fiction and the “short short” (varieties interchangeably termed “flash” or “sudden” fiction). In a short short, the writer with its concise portrayal of characters’ dilemmas that reveal truths and the human condition. Post Flash fiction or “short shorts” are compressed stories that narrate or capture vulnerable characters and truths about the human condition into a single paragraph- or page-length. Read these concise stories with a critical eye to see how these writers opened their respective stories. Appreciate the stylistic and thematic differences in and approaches to encapsulated storytelling. Then, reflect on different fictional elements that make such stories memorable as you identify at least three (3) techniques or devices used in these compressed stories. Can you envision adopting some of these stories’ techniques in creating your stories? Which author’s(s’) concise style do you find aesthetically pleasing?
