Pupillary Reflex Experiment
Follow the instructions below to write a formal lab report. Click https://youtu.be/aO6ipI-d2fw for a tutorial on the components of a scientific paper and click https://libguides.manchestercc.edu/c.php?g=273840&p=1827936 for a sample lab report. The report must contain complete sentences with correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Paragraphs must have a topic sentence, several supporting sentences, and a concluding sentence. Include the following sections in your lab report:
1. Title: Make sure that the title sums up the results. (1 point)
2. Introduction: 2-3 paragraphs about the experiment, including the reason it is being
performed, your hypothesis, how the hypothesis will be tested, and the relevant
physiological pathways involved. (4 points)
3. Methods: Briefly describe the steps that were taken to test the hypothesis. The
descriiption must be clear and concise enough so that another person could repeat the
experiment. Make sure to identify the control and treatment groups. List the steps in
past tense. Do not use personal pronouns to avoid appearing biased. (2 points)
4. Results:
• Include the raw results of the experiment, showing the means and standard
deviations for each group in a table. (2 points)
• Include the bar graphs of the means and standard deviation as error bars (see
activity 1). The graphs must be titled and labeled properly. (2 points)
• Then, write a paragraph below the graph describing the results by comparing
the means numerically, discussing the variability of the data sets, and
describing any statistical difference between the data sets (i.e., what does the
p-value indicate?). (3 points)
5. Discussion: Write 1-2 paragraphs discussing the results by explaining:
a. How your results relate back to the hypothesis. Did the results support or refute
it? How so? (1 point)
b. What is the probable physiological mechanism or pathway behind your results?
(1 point)
c. How meaningful are the results? Are they statistically significant? Are they
relevant to our existence as humans? How so? (2 points)
d. Describe two potential sources of error/bias that could have made the data
more variable? (1 point)
