Write an analysis of the film that introduces the movie, the major characters or persons, and the director/filmmaker. Explain the film’s thesis (the main point – not a plot summary) and evaluate its success in supporting that point.
Then write a paragraph or two explaining the relevance of the film in today’s context. You might think about today’s social context, the way in which Americans are educated and why, the historical relevance, the social movements, the resistance to social movements, etc. Select one scene from the film to describe that you judge to have the strongest appeal to logos, pathos, or ethos. Then include one overall takeaway from the film.
Write your analysis using MLA format. Include MLA format Works Cited for the film.
You should not use sources, but if you do, include MLA format in-text citations and Works Cited. Your analysis file will go to Turnitin for an Originality Report. If the report shows that you’ve used sources without documentation or that you’ve used more than 10 percent source material, you will not receive any credit. If you watch the movie, you should not have to look up movie reviews to respond to this assignment.
The films are available on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, or other streaming services. Some of them are also available through the Library’s Beacon database Swank Digital Campus Motion Picture Streaming. (If you choose Swank, you will have to create an account using your Del Mar email address that requires verification. It took a while for me to receive the verification notice, so plan ahead if you use this service. You can contact the Library if you have any questions about it.)
