Part 1: A critique of entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship and innovation relating to your own organisation. (MLOs 1 and 2) Description of Assessment Task and Purpose: This element of the portfolio is worth 40% and should be a maximum of 1,000 words +/- 10%. The purpose of this assessment is to assess your ability to critically evaluate and apply entrepreneurship and innovation concepts and theory to an organisation of your choice and to demonstrate your own leadership practice in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship. The critique should be based on an organisation. Ideally, this will be the organisation that you are currently engaged with as you will not only be familiar with the organisation but have access to data and information which can inform your critique. However, it is also possible for you to choose another organisation. You may, for example, choose a previous organisation that you were involved with or an organisation with which you are familiar and which you can get access to information which will allow you to meet the assessment criteria. In this essay, you should include the following sections: Outline and critique the practices of entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship and innovation relating to your own organisation. Critically reflect on the links between entrepreneurial thinking, intrapreneurial practices and delivering innovation for competitive advantage in relation to your organisation. Critically reflect on the implications of your learning for your perspective of leadership and your leadership portfolio as well. The critique of your chosen organisation should include an analysis of the practices of the organisation in term of entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship and innovation. It is important that you focus on the command word analyse. An analysis requires you to break down the issue (in this case, the organisation) into its constituent parts to highlight the key elements of its practices, the various influences on it and their strengths and limitations. Try to avoid merely describing the organisation and focus on the analysis so that it helps you to offer a critique. You should utilise the various theories and concepts you have come across in your reading as part of your analysis and use the literature to help support the points and judgements you make. It is also important that you take note of the requirement to critique. This means that you should review your organisation in relation to its purpose and make supported judgements about the extent to which its practices of entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship and innovation allow it to develop a competitive advantage. You might identify factors related to your organisation which allow it to foster corporate entrepreneurship and promote innovation but you may also identify elements which do not and offer reasons for both which may be grounded in or informed by the theory. The aim is to provide a reasoned and well-structured piece of work which develops a sound logical argument. Finally, you should reflect on the learning gained from the critique and its implications for your own approach of leadership. In providing your critique, it is important that you utilise the learning you have gained from the discussions with your peers and the online workshops. In the discussions, your peers may have provided you with different perspectives, comments, or questions which you have reflected on and which allow you to develop your critique. The extent to which you have utilised the discussions will be part of the assessment criteria so it is important that you participate in the discussions each week. In this regard, group feedback will be given on discussions and will be received in weeks 3 and 5. Planning your approach to this part of the portfolio is essential. You only have 1,000 words at your disposal so it is important that you think through the approach to your submission and ensure that you focus on the analysis and critique.
