You will turn in three short self-analysis papers throughout the semester. These will be worth 20 points each. For each paper, you should briefly summarize one of the main domains/perspectives from the course and then apply it to yourself in some way. For the application section, you may apply the domain concepts or specific theories to your own personality. Alternatively, you could find a measure for a construct(s) relevant to that domain and take it, then reflect on the results. When summarizing the information from the domain make sure to be concise and put the ideas into your own words. It should be written as though you are summarizing it for someone who is not familiar with the content. The goal of these papers is to achieve greater self-insight. You are encouraged to put aside the understanding of yourself that you brought with you into the course, and examine yourself with a fresh eye. Please go beyond mere self-descriiption, and avoid lengthy descriiptions of events that have occurred in your life. Draw on principles covered in the domain you’re summarizing. You may pursue them in greater depth by reading and citing sources other than the textbook and websites. Content: The summary section of the paper should be approximately 1 page. You should then apply the content from the domain you’ve chosen to yourself. The second page should cover specifically how you’re relating it to your personality. For example, you could take a personality assessment and discuss why (or why not) it does a good job assessing your personality. Or you can give examples of how the topic you’ve summarized would explain and/or predict your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. You can apply the domain broadly or focus on a specific area under the domain/perspective. Formatting: Each paper should be approximately 2 pages double spaced (Max. of 3 pages). You do not need a title page. You should use Times New Roman or an APA approved font with 1 inch margins. All papers should be submitted through Canvas. You do not need an abstract, but you may need a reference page if you include outside resources. If you are only referencing the lectures and textbook you do not need to use citations since it is assumed that is where your information is coming from. Any citations should be in APA style, although some requirements of APA style may be relaxed given the nature of the assignment (e.g., there is no need to avoid personal pronouns such as “I”).
